"I tried therapy but the beach helped me" more is a video game artwork exploring the ties between mental health, digital culture, and the wellness industry. Framed through an unclear game objective of "finding yourself", players navigate a beach landscape within 15 minutes and encounter NPCs (non-playable characters) such as an overpriced psychologist, a confusing spiritual guru and an obnoxious health-focused chef.
Commissioned by CapeLab for the virtual exhibition Replica, Avatar, and Deppelgänger, the show brought together eight artists to create video game works based on sociologist Eva Illouz's concept of emotional capital.
